Blog Posts

How to create and publish blog posts on marketofchoice.com.

Blog posts live at marketofchoice.com/blog/ and use the standard WordPress post type with Avada/Fusion Builder for layout. Emma typically assigns content via Basecamp with copy, images, and SEO details.

Taxonomies

Posts use several taxonomies for filtering and display:

  • Categories — Primary content grouping (Recipes, Entertaining, etc.)
  • Tags — Secondary classification, powers the "related posts" feature
  • Site Display — Controls which site sections show the post
  • Lifestyle Choices — Dietary/lifestyle tags (Organic, Gluten-Free, Vegan, etc.)
  • Holiday Categories — Seasonal tags (Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc.)

Creating a Post

Create the post

Navigate to Posts > Add Post in WP admin. Set the title.

Add content via Fusion Builder

Blog posts use Fusion Builder for layout. The most common pattern is a simple text column, but some posts include multi-column layouts, image galleries, or embedded video.

Paste the provided copy into a Text element. Format headings, lists, and links as needed.

Upload and set the featured image: 1200x925px (48:37 aspect ratio). This appears on the blog grid, location pages, and social sharing previews.

  • Center on the subject with good headroom
  • JPEG quality 85
  • Set alt text and title on the uploaded image
  • HEIC files from iPhone need conversion to JPG first

Set the excerpt

Write a 1-2 sentence excerpt. This appears on the blog grid and in meta descriptions if Yoast is set to %%excerpt%%.

Assign taxonomies

  • Check applicable Categories
  • Add Tags (important for related posts)
  • Set Site Display if the post should appear on specific location pages
  • Check Lifestyle Choices and Holiday Categories if relevant

SEO

  • Set the Yoast SEO title (or leave as default %%title%% %%sep%% %%sitename%%)
  • Set the meta description — use %%excerpt%% or write a custom one
  • Verify the slug is clean and descriptive

Preview and publish

Save draft, preview the post, then publish. Clear WP Engine cache if the blog grid doesn't update for logged-out users.

Holiday Blog Posts

Holiday-specific posts (gift guides, entertaining ideas, seasonal recipes) should be set to Draft post-season, not deleted. They can be republished the following year with updated content.

The related posts section on blog pages can surface outdated seasonal content — check after unscheduling holiday posts.

Notes

  • The blog grid at /blog/ uses WPUPG for display
  • WP Engine's aggressive caching can delay new posts appearing for logged-out users — clear the server-side cache if needed
  • Location pages can feature a blog post via their community WPUPG grid (see the Store Location Pages guide)
  • Image optimization matters — client-provided images are often too large (30+ MB TIFFs). Optimize before uploading.
